Intro to Feathers Online Class- $14.99

Do you want to learn how to create gorgeous feathers on your quilts? Do you look at quilts and wonder if it’s even possible for you to learn how to do that?

I know that you can! I also know that you can do it on your home sewing machine! This beginner friendly class will give you the best foundation for creating elegant feathers on your domestic sewing machine or on your long arm!

We cover the basics:  

  • Simple Feather
  • Echo Feather
  • Echo Curved Feather

And really, once you get these down, you will have the confidence to take your feathers to the next level!

Master Class

This is the discounted version of this course where you will get the pattern along with the previously recorded videos of the original class. 


The original class met once each week for 4 weeks to complete a whole cloth quilt with Jackie Brown! 



Supply List: 

  • Top Fabric 37"x37"
  • Backing 45"x45"
  • Batting 45"x45"
  • 1/3 yard of fabric for binding
  • Thread 40 weight
  • Sewline Styla water erasable ink pen
  • Straight Pins
  • *optional- light box for tracing- you can also use a window! 
  • Iron- the fabric needs to be pressed free of any wrinkles
  • Domestic Machines- you will need a hopping foot
  • Domestic Machines- you must drop the feed dogs to your machine


Once you purchase the course,  you will be able to download the pattern which you will print out. We will also email you all 4 of the teaching videos as well as the class workbook! 


Just follow along with the videos! You will trace out the pattern onto the fabric, stitch it out and even add fabulous background fills!

INTERACTIVE ONLINE ZOOM CLASSES


Do you have a domestic sewing machine? 


Do you have a long arm machine? 


If you answered yes to either of the questions above, then this Feathers Series is for you! 


This  series is for all quilters from beginners to intermediate.  (pre-requisite- you must be familiar with free motion quilting on a longarm or domestic machine)


Even intermediate  quilters will benefit from reviewing the basics in class one! I always  learn something new every time I revisit the basics. 


We  will learn to make various types of feathers,  Award winning Masterpiece Quilter, Jackie Brown will be your  guide through all things feathers! 


One class each month from 9am to 1pm for 6 months:

Class 2 

Echoing and PiggyBack Feathers

Skinny Feathers and Branched

*Please make sure that your machine is in good working order prior to class.

  • wave D ruler for class 5
  • contrasting thread
  • pen and paper
  • Have your machine loaded with practice fabric prior to class 1. (30"x30" top, 36"x36" for backing and batting). 
  • *Please be familiar with your ruler foot and rulers before class.


Domestic machine quilters: 

  • ruler foot
  • wave D ruler
  • quilting needle (size 14)

All you need is a desire to learn!

***We are teaching feathers in this class. We will not have time to address individual tension issues or individual machines acting up.  There are situations where your machine might not be able to free motion quilt with rulers.  If you have not done any free motion with rulers we recommend you bring in your machine to try with one of our open Handi Quilter rulers.  Jackie is available for private Zoom classes on specific issues at a rate of $50 an hour. There is so much to learn about feathers and we need to stick to the curriculum!

INTERACTIVE ONLINE ZOOM CLASSES


So you already know how to make feathers. Now you want to learn how and where to place them on a quilt. 


This series is for the intermediate to advanced quilter. 


We will learn:

  • Where and why to place particular styles of feathers on your quilt.
  • Demonstrate placement on a block or sashing.
  • Student will have a quilt loaded so we can talk about where to place feathers on the quilt.


This interactive online class will allow for lots of practice, practice, practice! 


One class each month from 2pm to 6pm for 6 months:

Class 1 

Let's review all types of feathers and talk about different types of fabric that we will be placing feathers on. 

Class 2 

How to shape feathers to fit into a negative space. 

Class 3 

How to make feathers into a background fill. 

Class 4 

How to add texture and movement through use of feathers. 

Class 5 

How to make a border look semi symmetrical. 

Class 6

Have your quilt loaded and we will discuss what type of feathers will look best on it and where. Whether your quilt is whimsical or applique will determine what types of feathers you use.

BASIC PANTOGRAPH LONG ARM QUILTING CLASS 

Learn to stitch a pantograph pattern.  It's a fast and easy way to make your quilt look like you had a professional quilt it for you.
